Preparing Texas youth for success in science education is a concern not only at the administrative and educator level, but also at the level of school librarianship. The College of Information at the University of North Texas is conducting a survey on Library Collection Support for the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) curriculum. We are evaluating the current preparedness of Texas school library collections in the area of science. Additionally, we are concerned with their migration to the new cataloging standard, RDA.

We would like to invite your campus librarian(s), lead library employee, and district cataloger(s) if applicable, to participate in this survey. Your willingness to pass this survey on to the appropriate person(s) is very important to us. Your support and encouragement for the completion of the survey would be appreciated.

This survey will let us understand the depth of library collections in Texas which support the STEM curriculum. It will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Participation in this survey is entirely voluntary. This survey will be anonymous. No individual will be identified in the analysis and report.

Preliminary, aggregate, results will be available in the Spring of 2010 at http://courses.unt.edu/bjones/.

If you have any concerns about this study, please contact Dr. Barbara Schultz-Jones of the Department of Library and Information Sciences at (940) 369-8081 (e-mail: barbara.schultz-jones@unt.edu). If you have additional questions, you can also contact the Institutional Review Board of the University of North Texas at (940) 565-3940. Return of the questionnaire indicates consent to participate in this study.

Here is a link to the survey http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=xWBxZpaC_2fZLogmH_2b1GtN4Q_3d_3d

Please request survey completion by November 16, 2009.

Thank you!
Barbara Schultz-Jones, Ph.D
Assistant Professor, School Library Program
Department of Library and Information Sciences
College of Information, University of North Texas
1155 Union Circle 311068, Denton, Texas 76203-5017
Office: 940-369-8081
Fax: 940-565-3101
Barbara.Schultz-Jones@unt.edu

Please note: If you do not wish to receive further emails from us, please click the link below, and you will be automatically removed from our mailing list. http://www.surveymonkey.com/optout.aspx?sm=xWBxZpaC_2fZLogmH_2b1GtN4Q_3d_3d
